Sven suggested that we travel to some cute Brazilian get away, kinda like Lavras Novas Style. Somewhere quiet that we could rest and romantic at the same time. Tiradentes came almost immediately to my mind. After doing some research, the decision was made and hotel was booked. What we didn't expect was that it was a little bit complicated to reach it without a car, although it's located just around 200 km away from Belo Horizonte. Well, the thing was that we needed to exchange buses in São João Del Rei, a town nearby Tiradentes. It was incredibly warm this day and we had the impression that the trip was longer than it really was...
At the Bus Station in São João Del Rei, waiting for our next bus to Tiradentes.
Fifteen minutes later, we arrived at Tiradentes; a tiny 7.000 inhabitants village where time stopped at the 18th century. Because Tiradentes became one of the best preserved baroque sites in Brazil, it attracts many tourist over the weekends and 2 out of 3 houses were converted into Bed and Breakfasts. Although there are not many tourist stuff to see and do, the biggest attraction is the village's architecture itself. Houses are cute, churches full of gold, and the streets made of rocks.

São José Fountain
Behind the São José Fountain, there's a sort of small dike and a trail along it, where it's possible to walk inside of a small forest (Bosque da Mãe D'Água). The trail ends and so is the walk. The humidity is high and the smell of fresh air is delicious!

The weather was so warm those days that the only thing Sven and I had in mind the entire time was the pool at the place we were staying. By the way, the Bed and Breakfast we chose is called Pousada Mãe d'Água, perfectly located and offers the most wonderful breakfast, full of cakes, fruits, juices, etc.!

wonderful breakfast, even the bird agrees!
A couple of good friends -
Lilian and Daniel - met with us in Tiradentes and it was a great opportunity to catch up and of course to dine
together at a cozy little restaurant called Confidências Mineiras - with over 500 brands of cachaça, most
of them locally distilled in Minas Gerais. Sven and I ordered something quite
unique: Eisbein,
"mineiro" style (Ham hock and kraut, with special ingredients used in the typical Brazilian cuisine, more specifically in the state of Minas Gerais - such as pieces of dried
meat and fried cassavas as side dish). It was delicious!!! A great
combination between German and Brazilian flavours!
Eisbein, estilo mineiro Sven and lots of cachaça bottles in the back! :)

The next morning was time already that we packed the stuff and took off. A short stop on the way out of the village to take a picture with the famous Steam Locomotive known as Maria Fumaça, which still works every weekend and takes visitors from Tiradentes to São João Del Rei. Unfortunately we stayed in Tiradentes during the week, so a ride was not possible this time...
I hope you guys enjoyed this post and the pictures and well as we enjoyed our relaxing days in Tiradentes!! Thanks for reading and 'till next time!
